Laser Hair Removal Edmonton

Most people can agree that the time an average person spends on hair removal could be better spent elsewhere. Shaving, threading, and waxing are painful, constant, and can cause ingrown hairs and irritate sensitive skin. Regardless of who you are and how well you try to keep up with personal grooming, body hair just keeps growing back. There is a better way if you are tired of the hassle, and getting rid of unwanted hair has never been easier!

Laser treatments are an easy option for permanent hair removal, and if you have ever wondered if it’s for you, you may have some questions. Of the hair removal methods available, laser hair removal is a safe and effective option. The process is simple and requires little preparation or post-procedure action. Laser hair removal treatments are designed to remove the hair from its source- the hair follicle. At Encore Medical Rejuvenation, we offer upper body and lower body treatments or can focus on a specific area of your choosing, such as the face or bikini line.

How Does
Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal works by using light to target the hair follicle. By lasering the follicle of the hair, hair regrowth is dramatically reduced and, in many cases, stopped altogether. The process is simple and requires very little preparation from the recipient. The most important preparation and follow-up is for the recipient to stay out of the sun as much as possible. If avoiding the sun isn’t possible, applying SPF is recommended as this will reduce sensitivity.

The procedure will begin with the area being covered in a cooling gel. The recipient is given eye-protection goggles, and the technician or dermatologist gets to work. Laser treatments are great as more than one hair is affected at a time, allowing for the process to move along quite quickly. Even for large areas, such as legs, the average time until completion is approximately one hour. The process is fast and, in most cases, painless.

Things to Know Before Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment in Edmonton

Skin color and hair color make a difference in results. The laser targets the pigmentation and, for most, the area of greatest pigmentation is the hair. As the laser hits the hair, it essentially burns its root, giving permanent hair reduction or stopping hair growth altogether.

Because the laser targets areas of increased pigmentation, it is important to understand that results may be affected if you are an individual with darker pigmentation in your skin. In general, light skin with darker hair responds best to the laser hair removal procedure. To be clear, individuals with dark skin can most definitely benefit from the procedure, but the lighter the skin, the easier it is for the laser to target and affect the hair follicle accurately.

Although many see laser treatments as permanent hair removal, it’s important to understand that the process will not remove all unwanted hair. Some individuals may require several treatments to get the desired results. Even when the hair is not removed completely, a majority is removed, and the growth of what is left changes dramatically. After treatment, what at one time may have been a thick dark hair will grow back lighter, finer, and much less visible.

It’s crucial that the skin is not inflamed, razor-burned, sunburned, or otherwise irritated before receiving laser hair removal treatment services. In the days before obtaining a laser treatment, shaving the targeted region is actually advised

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

Laser Hair removal is incredibly safe and highly effective for most individuals. The laser itself targets the hair follicle, not the skin. Because of this, most individuals don’t feel much discomfort before, during, or after the procedure.

After the procedure, you can expect your skin to feel almost completely normal but, for some, increased sensitivity can be present for a few days. Regardless of how you feel, a good rule is to treat your body as you would if you had a sunburn in the days immediately following the procedure. Avoid sun exposure, avoid creams and perfumes that may irritate the skin, and do not tan- indoors or outdoors.

Facial Hair Removal

Facial hair removal is one of the most frequently requested services. Whether you are a man or a woman, most people have areas of hair on the face that they would rather not deal with on a daily or weekly basis. Whether it is a slight unibrow or beard hair growing higher up on your cheeks than you desire, facial hair removal can be the solution.

As women age and hormone levels change, it is not uncommon for “peach fuzz” to become more prominent and noticeable. With laser hair removal, you can effectively stop shaving and stop using gels and creams while still enjoying the smooth face you desire.

Whether it is the upper lip, chin, or full face, laser hair removal can significantly impact facial hair and the maintenance it requires!
